Residents: Serena Derico, Kitty Derico

It didn’t take long for Kitty Derico to settle into the single life with her aunt Serena. They were of like minds, both two girls who enjoyed having fun. The two shared many interests and became fast friends, despite their age gap. Serena’s birthday was drawing near and soon, she’d be old like Davina. Still, she didn’t let it bring her down. She’d enjoyed her youth as best she could.
One evening while they were having a late dinner, Kitty confided in her aunt. She explained the situation with Louis and what had happened at college. Serena didn’t really react. She simply nodded and gave a small shrug. She explained to Kitty that what she was doing could only end badly, and that if she wasn’t prepared to deal with the consequences of her actions, she would be better off just letting go. There were plenty of men out there, after all.

Kitty had never been one for listening to other’s advice. She was much happier doing her own thing. So it was no surprise when she approached Louis one night when she spotted him at a local diner. They hadn’t seen one another since her graduation. Unfortunately, Louis did not return Kitty’s joy at their reunion. He quickly pushed her away. They were in public and he was married. What was she thinking?
Still, he couldn’t deny that he was happy to see her. When she finally left, crestfallen at his dismissal, Louis felt a wave of guilt wash over him. It seemed that no matter what he did anymore, someone was getting hurt.

Hurt deeply by her lover’s rebuttal, Kitty found solace in the arms of another by the name of Marcus Prescott. It was known throughout the entire college that Marcus had a thing for Kitty. He was the reason she got into the Secret Society. He was beyond happy when she finally returned his affections.
Realizing what she’d done the morning after, Kitty found herself crying. What had she done? She could barely remember. She was so upset, she had just been acting on instinct. Glancing down at her hand, she saw the ring. She was engaged. Before she could mull over it any longer, her cell phone rang. It was Louis, he wanted to see her. Without another thought, she pulled the ring off her finger and stuck it into her pocket. She couldn’t let him know.

Kitty had to restrain herself from jumping on Louis when he arrived at the small house. His walls were still in tact, but at least he was speaking to her now. Not that she was listening. No, she was too busy off in her dream world were Loraine didn’t exist and she got what she wanted. Louis’ lowered tone snapped her out of her thoughts.
“Kitty, are you listening to me? We can’t see one another anymore.”
“Don’t be be silly! Of course we can… you live just down the str-”
“I have a son to think about now. This ends here… for good.”
Kitty sighed, “It can’t end here, not like this.”

If this was to end, it would end just as it began. It didn’t take much coaxing for Louis to give in and soon, he found himself betraying his family again, risking his child’s happy home. But he just couldn’t resist. The pull was too strong. In some way, there was something with Kitty that would never be present with Loraine. He was saddened that it would never be explored further. After this, he would return home.
And he did. When Kitty awoke, he was gone. She cried again. When she eventually pulled herself out of bed, she rummaged for the ring and placed it once again on her finger. If they were over, then she might as well embrace what wasn’t. Marcus wasn’t Louis, but maybe she could pretend that he was.

Serena’s birthday approached quickly, and soon, her dark black hair had turned gray and her skin seemed changed somehow. She wasn’t as agile as she used to be, but her humor and disposition hadn’t changed a bit. Kitty couldn’t have asked for a better aunt or room mate. Serena had been so supportive. She was like the mother Kitty never had.

Old age didn’t slow Serena down any. She was still dating as much as ever, perhaps even more so now. Unfortunately, Kitty’s twin, Vincent, wasn’t as appreciative of his aunt carousing about town with random men. He still visited often, but asked Kitty to warn him beforehand when Serena had a date over. Kitty teased him, saying he was a grown, married man and still he couldn’t handle a little PDA. Vincent was a strange one, that’s for sure.

As things settled down in the house once again, so did Kitty. She finally bit the bullet and became Kitty Prescott. She wasn’t surprised to see Louis there, or his wife, Loraine. Loraine was family, after all… and of course, she would bring her husband along. Kitty tried her best to act the part of the happy bride, but it just wasn’t in her heart.
As soon as the ceremony was over, she snuck away and hid in a room. She needed to cry.

She hadn’t expected Louis to follow her. He was running a big risk with Loraine just outside. Still, he comforted Kitty, telling her that it was all for the best. This had become bigger than them or some silly attraction. They just needed to go on with life.
Kitty pretended to understand, but in her heart, she didn’t. She knew that Louis was supposed to be with her. Their connection was too strong, too unusual to not be a sign. Why couldn’t he see it? Kitty knew he had a child with Loraine, but she didn’t care anymore. That child should’ve been hers.
This was far from over. Kitty would not be pushed aside so easily. All she needed was a plan…
