103 Prosperity Lane: Cycle Ten [Proudmoore Valley, Derico Family] — Mao @ 11:25 am

Residents: Jamie & Lorrie Derico

Lorrie: Oh, greetings. This is a little strange… but I guess I’ll adjust. My name is… or was, Lorrie Collins. It’s Derico now, of course. Jamie proposed to me during our last year of college!

We had a great wedding. It seems so long ago. There’s little Randy leaving the chapel. He didn’t like our outright show of PDA. Haha, and to think he’s now a romancer! It’s funny how life works, isn’t it? Most of the Derico family was present. I say most because nearly all of Proudmoore Valley is populated by Dericos and we couldn’t possibly hope to fit them all in that tiny place!

I’m afraid I didn’t come into the housewife role very well. It just wasn’t something I was born into. I’d much rather be working than sitting at home cooking and cleaning. Eventually I did get to work, but I still needed to take care of my husband. He grinned and bared my bad cooking. Eventually, he took over the job. For that, I was thankful. He’s quite a good cook!

We both love our careers and put them before anything else; however, that doesn’t mean we don’t spend time together! For the most part, our schedules allow us a little personal time here and there. We’re both happy with that. Alice, my mother-in-law, isn’t. She wants grandchildren and fully expects one from us. She even expects one from Randy! I think she’s mad. Why not let Elle and Diana have more?

Jamie is very much a mother’s boy, so he’s brought the topic up several times. I’m very hesitant. Having a child would greatly hamper my success. I wanted to be Chief of Staff! Currently Rex Derico, Jamie’s cousin, has the position. I think it’s ridiculous to let a vampire sit at the top, so I intend to knock him down a peg or two!

Unfortunately, before I can even begin on that, I must endure another fact of life. It appears our personal time was enough to start the chain of life within me. I am pregnant. Jamie assured me that even though I was on maternity leave, I could sharpen my skills and ready myself ‘for the kill’, so to speak.

It was a miserable experience. One I hope never to repeat again!

When the time came, Jamie remained annoyingly calm. I hated it because I couldn’t manage to control myself. All I could do was wail loudly as shockwaves of pain spread throughout my body. I thought I was going to collapse as Jamie phoned the EMT’s. It was a good thing I had worked with them and grown to trust them, otherwise I would’ve demanded to be driven!

Finally the baby came out and the pain was gone, for a little while. I just had to rest, a lot. When we were finally able to come home, I saw that Jamie had the nursery all set up. He was very proud of his little boy. We named him Cody. He has Jamie’s complexion and my eyes and hair. I have to admit, he’s a cute little tot. Hopefully he’ll be my salvation from that nagging mother of Jamie’s!
