Residents: Damian & Alice Derico, Randy & Katy Derico

Randy Derico graduated college with little trouble, surprising his entire family. He wasn’t the type to flounder over academic merits and the like. Randy was much more interesting in having a good time. It was no secret that the amorous young man had been caught in scandalous situations all about campus, with professors no less! Which probably explained his grades and graduating status.
While he may have enjoyed the love of many, there was one unlike any other. Katy Larrea. He’d met her downtown and it had been an immediate connection. They understood one another. Originally, they had agreed not to become committed… but Randy knew his parents would let Katy join the household without some sort of shiny bauble. So they plotted and he proposed. Katy accepted, trying to ignore the heavy weight lain on finger.

The people around them may not have understood their love, but they did. And that was all that mattered. Whenever they were in the same room, sparks flew. It was rare that they left the comfort of their bedroom except to go to work or join Alice and Damian for dinner. They were a happy couple, regardless of what others whispered about their unwed status.

Of course, there may have been less whispering if Katy didn’t romance other lovers out in public. She loved Randy, but it was in her nature. It was something she just couldn’t give up. Plus, she had a man now and wanted to venture over into the wild side. She started seeking out women. It never occured to her that half of the town was related to Randy.

Randy, however, was more cautious with his romantic conquests. He often entertained them at home while his parents were off at work. Several of his coworkers were female and didn’t hesitate when he offered them a ride home. Of course, they never quite made it to their house, but his. It had become a well-known thing that when Randy Derico offered a ride… he didn’t mean in a car.

The two were happy with their carefree lives. They never expected a sudden turn of events. Katy started feeling ill. She found herself hunched over the toliet more than she ought it, and it wasn’t because of the partying, either. One morning Randy passed by the bathrooms and heard her. He cautiously peeked in.
“Kat, you okay?”
She didn’t turn to face him. A moment of silence passed by before she finally said, “I’m pregnant.”
He blinked, not expecting that response. “Are… are you sure it isn’t just the flu or something?”
“Does this look like the flu?!” She hissed, spinning round and showing him the small pregnancy test. The reading was positive.
“…I’ll go call the doctor.” Randy said simply, still too stunned to react. This was something neither had anticipated. They were careful, this shouldn’t have happened.

Katy was miserable all throughout her pregnancy. She hated being fat and bloated and all the things that came with carrying a child. She couldn’t see her lovers, she couldn’t even go to work. She felt cooped up in the house with no escape. It didn’t help that all she did was eat and sleep. There was no fun in her life anymore. She was tired of staring down at a plate full of food.

Then there was Randy’s parents. They insisted the two get married before the birth of the child. Damian explained that it was a part of the inheritance clause. In order for Randy to take over the estate, he had to be married. Katy glared at him, wishing he had told her this from the beginning. He shrugged and tried to look sheepish.
The two were married, though not in any grand sort of ceremony. It was quick and simple. Alice was a little put off by their lack of enthusiasm, but looked forward to having a baby in the house. She hated having to walk all the way to her other children’s houses to see her grandkids.

After a painfully long labor, Katy gave birth to a girl. They named her Jade. Poor little Jade didn’t get much affection from her parents. Randy was busy with his job and Katy started catching up on everything she’d missed as soon as she was well enough to leave the hospital. Thankfully the little tot had very caring grandparents. Damian and Alice were more than happy to take over the role. They had gone through four kids of their own. They missed the sound of little feet.

Jade grew into an adorable toddler. She didn’t realize her parent’s neglect. In fact, she called Alice mommy. Alice was overjoyed. Not only did she have a sweet little granddaughter at her disposal, she was one step closer to her life long goal of having six grandchildren. She couldn’t wait for Diana to give birth.
